Plan 2

Another Not Windy Day in AtlantaWow, look at all the whitecaps...

"Someone once asked me if I have a plan B, I said, 'No, I don't have a plan B. I number my plans.'" -Demetri Martin

I must regretfully say that I've decided to scale back my windsurfing this fall. Quite frankly, this 'waiting for wind' business has convinced me that I really need better things to do. After all, this is Atlanta: Where Wind Goes to Die™. As webmaster for a windsurfing club, I realize that this puts me in an awkward spot but I do believe that many of you, too, will come to this conclusion as you wait in vain the parking lot for any signs of wind.

Instead, these are some of the things I will be doing this fall:

I've decided to marry my love of cycling with a desire to see Georgia from a different perspective. I've ordered this clever camper from a company in China. It has a bed, small kitchen and a dining table. Of course, it's bigger inside than it looks.

Typically, aerodynamics and wind resistance are big concerns for cyclists who sometimes pay as much as $2000 for a set of wheels more aerodynamic than the pedestrian stuff on your average $2-3000 bike. This camper may not seem aerodynamic since it has the frontal area of two sheets of plywood but notice the carefully rounded corners. Clearly, some effort was made to make sure it slices through the wind.

RV Cycle
Yeah, I guess it might go faster if I get aero bars.

I don't foresee any problems with this plan as I doubt that I'll be encountering head winds, cross winds or any winds for that matter. While you are moo-mooing over the glassy water at Van Pugh, I'll be going mobile.

When I'm not camping, what better way to view the fall foilage than by hot air balloon? Yes, I'm planning multiple excursions by balloon this fall. I had the opportunity to balloon many years ago and it's a marvelous experience (A+++++ would do again). You drift gently and almost quietly excepting when the overhead blast furnace lights up. Ballooning is quite safe, especially when the winds are light or calm - a perfect sport for Georgia.

Stone Mountain Ropes Course
And, finally, I think I've overcome my fear of heights and planning to attend a tightrope walking school near Stone Mountain. Wind often presents a risk to tightrope walkers and has even been a cause of tragic accidents. But this is near Atlanta: Where Wind Goes to Die™. I'm not worried.
Okay, let's not kid ourselves. I'm not going to hot-air balloon, walk a tightrope or even pedal my own RV. I'm going to end up like these coconuts on the beach, praying for wind. Just like I do every single fall.
Please make it blow

When wind hasn't blown much lately our little community's attention begins to wander. While waiting for wind from Isaac that never came, a post on our forums began with a hamster video and then descended into what every discussion on the internet becomes: about cats.

Since one of our objectives of this web site is to bring you the very best internet resources to enhance your windsurfing experience, we bring you the (alleged) Internet Cat Video Festival award winner, Henri 2, Paw de Deux

Thanks. I wish I was half as funny as the cat video - that's genius. Hope you get wind down your way this weekend.
