Usually not very far (3 days?). I have noticed that at coastal areas forecasts seem to hold up better than they do around here. I've seen times going to OBX where the forecast were about right for the week ahead. Long trip is tough to guess. Might be best to bring gear that is flexible enough to be used in varying conditions.
Also, if you look around Weather Underground you can find a wind history page that can show you over the past 10 year or so what you might expect. Gives you an idea of what might make sense to bring.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
This time of year, typically, you don't get the big swings in weather since the jet stream is further north and you have less temperature/pressure differences. I'd be tempted to bring the biggest stuff and one or two sails below that. For me that would be 9.5, 7.0, 6.0 and two boards. If you can't bring that much, then you have to decide whether you are more likely to give either a big day or a light day a miss so you can be with the family. If it's a marginal 8-12 day, then spend the time with the fam.
I'll be up there for a week. The "15 day forecast" looks pretty calm, maybe 1 day windsurfable. I'm kinda bummed , but there's always paddle boarding, and beer, there's always beer. I'll just cross my fingers and hope to get at least 2-3 days of wind.
15 day forecast is just reversion to the mean after a few days - don't read too much into it. Take a couple of sails, drink beer and paddle. There's some indication things may swing on later in the week.

How long are you going?
