Re: Wednesday

Crazy day. Got there about 1 and hardly a white cap. Dreaded dome effect? Wind felt pretty cold coming off the water. I was up at Sunrise.

Nonetheless, rigged 7.7 and Formula Jr. and went out.

Puffs began to build and the first really strong one hit when my adjustable outhaul decided to auto adjust to full on power. Nothing like letting off the outhaul 2 inches when the first 20 mph gust hits.

From then on the puffs could be in the low 20s and in the lulls you might have a hard time planing. A couple of puffs lifted me straight off the water. The routine became head up in the puffs and tear as far downwind as possible in the lulls trying to outrun the gusts.

Sailed about 1 and half hours and my arms were trashed. Even with a fair amount of downhaul and outhaul, the sail wanted to turn inside out in the heavy stuff.

btw, there's a rope swing on the backside of Sunrise cove if you need something to do if it's not blowing. Some kids were jumping off yesterday. That had to be cold.

Al and I sailed Keith's Bridge again from 3 till about 5:30 or so. First half hour or so was occasional planning (Al on 110 liter 7.5, me on 6.6 PacifiCo and my 120 liter). After about 45 minutes it picked up and strayed very stong with lots of white caps the rest of the day, punctuated by holes and lulls here and there. I was pretty much out of control on the smaller (faster) board, while Al sailed about a mile upwind to cope with the wind. (Changing sails at this spot is bit hard since its a loooonnnng walk to the launch point.) This spot has now delivered twice when other places on the lake were problematical. I'm not saying its the answer to the "dome effect" but may be less prone to it.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
