I wonder if you saw the same NWS f'cast I saw. I think there's something screwy with the model(s?) they use. They always seem to show lots of wind 3-4 days out , then it changes 1-2 days before the 'big day'.
Hey– I'm curious about Playa del Carmen. How windy was it there... what size sails. I'm guessing warm too. How'd you get there? Expensive?
Yeah, Wed sucks. Thursday looks good now, but like you said, the forecast is always good 3 days out. Playa del Carmen was amazing! It's gorgeous and the wind was really strong 4 days out of 7. I think it was gusting to 25, my buddy who is from Kailua Hawaii was using a 6.0. I was using a 4.5 cause I am still fairly new to this whole thing, but I was able to plane for extended periods of time and really enjoy myself. You can fly right into cancun and rent a car for cheap to drive 50 minutes south to Playa del Carmen. There seemed to be a few places to rent rigs there. I highly recommend it, but I haven't been many places. I am headed to Kailua to visit one of my best friends in January (the guy I went to Playa with) and I expect it to be awesome. It is where Robby Naish is from, after all. Well, hope to see you Thursday.
You must have had an amazing (read rare) time in Playa del Carmen. I have spent alot of time in that area and have never seen days good enough to sail. In the 5 years back and forth there was only one time when the wind was up and that was because a hurricane was heading straight for Cancun. The diving is incredible though!!!
Lots of cheap flights there as he said to Cancun then drive down. If you buy a trip with an all-inclusive they shuttle you to the resort, and there are some beautiful resorts in the Maya Rivera. check Vacation Express, Apple vacations, Cheap Carribean

Friday looks promising for sailing at Van Pugh. Let hope the forecast holds up as we get closer to the date.
