Gene has a helmet like that to go along with his wife beater wet suit. Probably worth a try. I've been looking at the sun, moon and planets. There's a really important alignment between the stars and planets, which will either spell awesome wind in warm weather, or a waste of $10 worth of gasoline. My Magic 8-ball says "Outlook cloudy.'
There is a scientific method to figure out whether you should go. While this article deals with a relationship question, the logic would work for windsurfing as well. The initial probabilities are basically, the forecast, the confirming evidence is the readings at G-ville, or calling Gene to see if the trees are moving. (Or depending on direction, going to the LLSC web page.)
Jowell (new 9.5), CP (6.0), Spreendog (7.5), Randy (7.5) and me (9.5) all had a tremendous session. Despite the spread in sail sizes it was more of a 6.5-7.5 day. Randy said he was blown off the water and judging from the whitecaps, I had no business being on a 9.5 other than it's the only sail I dun brung. Almost 90 degrees in July and one isn't thinking to pack the small stuff.
Nipped up to the sailing club from VP on the first long run. Nice to get out of the backyard every once in a while.
Sailed an 8.5 at Galts. There were sustained gusts that allowed a few shore to shore planing runs. Doesn't sound as consistent as VP. Seemed like the best wind showed up right after I derigged at 5:00. I think this is the first time I've been out this year. Still managed to make a few nice jibes. - Bill
Din suck too bad for me.
4:30 arrival was lucky... fully wound up on 6.5. (Thanks el mucho to Spreeno for the harness loan). I sailed down to LLSC where my driver met me. It was a little iffy en route, but came up again for a sweet ~1/2 hour of raging reaches to the beach. :o
Capped it with an awesome sunset sail on the tanker.
Just about the most memorable and unusually windy summer day. I ran my light wind 6.0 - didn't bring anything smaller - with my new 25 yr. old funboard (thanks Randi) - a very different ride, but a lot of fun. Flattened sail twice & largely way powered. Temps perfect, nice sunset.
Besides the sailors already mentioned, Ed, Z, and I also sailed. Count them up, on a weekday (well before a holiday.)
I got hammered on my 7.5, took a beating. And had the worst time getting off the beach. Finally came in and rigged my 6.0 and it was still loaded up. VERY WINDY!
Lots of fun, but wore me out.
Yes, it was as fun as I remember. I wish I could go more often, but, alas, life intervenes. Sailing with the VP crowd (or anyone for that matter) would have defiantly made it better. The iffy forecast and long drive home to Marietta compelled me to head to Allatoona. It sure get's lonely over here. I miss you guys...

WindSurfing has not been cancelled!
