This morning, I see mid level clouds moving from the West. The NWS forecast is for W 5-15, G20 mph. If it starts picking up on the surface, I'm heading to Van Pugh.
It looks like it's already blowing some, I'm heading to Van Pugh, hopefully around 11:00 or noon. Also, I've heard 2 Hobiecaters (SP?) are on their way.
Gene & I windsurfed while Chris V., & David sailed their Hobie Cats. Chris took Peggy & I for a sail. Gene tried out his paddleboard. It was a fun afternoon. Around 3-3:30 the wind picked up and I was on a continuous plane, including planing jibes. Not bad for the end of July in Atlanta.
OK, it was fun, especially considering the wind wasn’t that much. I did plane off my first run on my 7.5 and 115 liter board but after that, not much. Barret did plane around for awhile but it had turned more south and he was way out and it was thundering, so I decided not to join him. Just because Barret can plane doesn’t mean I can plane.
The Hobie Cats were fun, (I was not scared on the trapeze, I thought I was a natural.) We did a kind of cool thing where I sat on the wing of Chris’ cat piloted by David, WHILE I was sailing the Kona and 7.5.
About the Paddle-boarding, I did paddle around for awhile on the KONA. I had put together a paddle and it seemed to work well even though it’s not Carbon (or $300.) It was surprisingly easy to do. I put down the dagger board and it was not tipsy and tracked fairly straight considering I still don’t have the paddle stroke down where you only paddle on one side.
To me, (and remember I’m new to this SUP thing,) the KONA windsurfers seem to be a good all around choice for the Atlanta area. It’s a longboard, with a dagger board and a step tail, and EVA deck, has a one design racing fleet, it works in the waves at the coast AND works well as a STAND-UP-PADDLE BOARD. http://www.kona-windsurfing.com/products/konaone.asp KONAs are available through WindSense.
One last WindSense commercial - The Kona is in the WindSense Rental Fleet. Thinking about SUPing, rent the Kona (board only with paddle) for ONLY $20 a day. Bring your big sail and if it blows at all, you can do some longboarding, if not, some SUPing. Go ahead and try it, you know you want to. And it is August.

Great Day! I planed at least 85 % of the time on my Hobie. I bet Chris V. did too.
I got Gene out on the trapeze. Boy was he scared! He also captained the boat for a bit. He loved it
Chris and I started talking about a Cape San Blas Road Trip!
I know I am ready
