Location: LaGrange, GA I was at War Eagle MX Saturday. There's probably 50 acres of nice flat treeless land leading up to the track. With Saturdays weather, it made for a rather strong cross-wind.

There are two table top jumps that run perpendicular to the wind. I start off way short and work my way up (one I can clear and the other is too far and high for this chicken). But whenever I got in the air the wind would try to blow the bike out from under me, causing me to land with the bike leaning sideways. The bike landed hard and my forward momentum wa re-directed, very scary.

David said he had the same problem and figured the fast guys knew how to compensate in the air. I watched quite a few do some big air, but never could dicern any wind movement to their bike, nor adjustments they were making.

I tried using the force, but it backfired and I couldn't find the droids I was looking for.

What's the secret technique? If it's natural talent and balance, I'm hosed.

Location: Cedartown, GA I'm sure the other guys were fighting the cross wind too, but it's hard to see that little bit of movement from the sidelines when they go flying by. When you are on the bike, it feels like a huge amount of "push" from the wind.

When there is a good crosswind on a particular jump, and it's there most every time you come around, I try to jump into the crosswind as much as I can, which means running a little bit across the face of the jump at a slight angle, rather than dead straight up the face. Jumping a little bit into the wind counters the push a bit.

Dirt bike, schmirt bike. Land this sucker in a crosswind:
[Edit: No disrespect meant to peelskid. Just thought I'd throw out an example of something really big having to deal with the same situation.]

Back to windsurfing. Note how Robbie (yeah, we're on a first name basis...), okay, Mr. Naish points downwind as he lands. First jump shows how far you can get blown downwind while up in the air.

and, that's a freakin' longboard in the first jump.
