Whats going on?
I am in the Atlanta area for an internship and brought my board from Chicago. I haven't seen many windy days here unless a storm is nearby...
My internship ends on Aug 22nd, but I don't have to go back to school until September 26th.
So, I really want to take a windsurfing trip in early september somewhere where there will be consistent wind and good learning conditions.
I can beach start no problem, have water started a handful of times, can jibe or come about albeit clumsily, can get in and out of harness but struggle a bit with board control and heading up. I windsurf mostly out of Chicago; there are limited sailing opportunities there; I think I can make progress with some practice coupled with teaching.
Would love to hear recommendations, if you all have any of where I should book a week, week plus trip. Would really want to focus on windsurfing for the week, being with a group with similar mindset would be great.
Thanks, Matt
Outer Banks, NC (esp Avon for full immersion). Long drive but worth it.
You can get a feel for the conditions by looking in the foto galleries.
I second the OBX suggestion...I was told I'd learn as much that week as in a year at home...True! We go in the fall..don't miss it if you are serious. You will have the time of your life...it's so cool to have your only job and responsibility be advancing your skills for the week. You will be surrounded by guys with experience to help you...
I was thinking OBX too, but your time frame does not hook up the group trip (they go in early October).
Darn, you leave for Chicago a day before the windsurfing house opens in Nags Head on the Outer Banks of NC. Conditions may be OK before that if you can find a place to stay at a reasonable price. We reserve a house for a month in October because the the cost is lower outside the high season and the odds for wind seem to be better. Also, the mosquitos are gone by then.
