Better question for some is "Are you going to be too tired by then?"
Three days of crank. If it's not enough for you, just head east to Hartwell or Clarks Hill.
btw, hope our coastal brothers/sisters come out okay - the Charleston Boys, TC and Joe O.
Answer to your question: If the various launches aren't crowded Saturday, I'd be surprised and let down.

NOAA is saying North, Windmapper is showing Northeast, Windfinder is showing NE clocking to NW in the afternoon
Van Pugh is good for all of the above.
If anybody is interested in looking at any of the following
2008 North Natural
Big chinook alloy boom
430 standard diameter mast 75% carbon
Dakine T4 waist harness XL
Call me Friday night and i'll bring them with me Saturday.

I'm with Alan. VP is about the only place that works for a NE -> NW shift. (Hartwell does, too, but an extra hour). NW should be interesting. Tropical systems can be gusty plus the regular NW gustiness (see those mountains in the distance?). Everyone will have the opportunity to kook out.
Likewise - Mistral 284 (115l) and 276 (103l) and Starboard Go 151 available for sale plus Stephan's Techno 133. Something for everyone.
I know a lot of us are going to have fun today but, take a moment and spare a thought for those are really having a shitty day instead. We wish our friends affected by the weather well.
I sailed at Galts today along with Bill and Al. Bill and I made it look hard while Al made it look easy. Bill 6.5/130? I was 5.0/145 and Al 5.3/103 which seemed to be the winning combination. Eddie popped in but seemed to have a problem with a broken tendon (the windsurfing kind, not the kind that is in your body.)
It was pretty epic wind, gusts topping out over 30, and lulls of course <10? Par for the course at Galts. But it was a really great day for windsurfing. The wind got so strong the picnic crowd left in a huff when they got tired of sand blowing into their food.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.
Van Pugh was lit up today and the parking lot was full. Maybe 15 of us? Eddie Brodeur and Langdon "opened the store" before 11 and there were still a handful of people on the water at 5:30 when I left.
Gusty, gusty, gusty. Tropical weather combined with the wind coming over the mountains. Lots of wind shifts the wind was anywhere from almost NE to W but generally N/NW. Earlier in the day it was 10-20. Around 3 it really kicked in hard and was 18-28 with a few gusts that were probably 30+. Anything from 5.5-7 generally worked but lots of chopped favored smaller boards in spite of the lulls.
The air and water are still warm but lots of us wore shortys because of the wind chill.
9/10 Subtracted 1 point for the sometimes insane chop and gustiness.
Met a hurricane refugee from Charleston whose Atlanta buddies gave him a ride to one of the islands to kite. Hope he comes back when the wind isn't so insane. He had a 15 which was either way too big or not enough.
Glad the wind chased the crowds away at Galts. All they ever do is make me crazy hungry with their picnics. I gain 2 lbs every time I leave there because the aroma makes me so hungry and I then make poor food choices.

20-30 forecast here in Augusta for Saturday. As usual, I'll probably be by myself...
Sorry, dude, you have such a good venue. Keep the faith.

Come to lanier!
Alan
I have a company picnic tomorrow at Acworth Beach. I have a feeling it will be a blow out. Anyone going to Galts?
OK, if there is wind I will go (VP).
Marek
Can't make it to Lanier today so going instead to Lake Clara Meer.*
Take some pictures at Van Pugh for me.
* but seriously, no one windsurfs here.

Hi I just moved into Atlanta. Been kiting for 6-7 years. Used to be a windsurfer. Is the spot big enough to launch a kite? My lines are 20m long.
How much is it blowing?
The main launch for kiters is Old Federal park. It is pretty nice now because the water is low and there is plenty of room.
