Sailing Report Sunday and Monday

Well Sunday was *^%%%$^%$^%$^ and Monday was Fantastic. On Sunday I rigged a 5.0 and Drew a 4.7. It was all I could do to keep my eye on Drew due to the conditions. You know how a father is afterall. I did sail on Sunday but not really because my concentrations were elsewhere plus Sunday was not exactly my kind of day.

On the other hand, Monday was fantastic. Got to VP at 12:45 instantly rigged a 7.5 and sailed solid until 4. Wind was a little light at first then got really good. But 4 other sailors were rigging 5.2 etc. Gene was on a 5.2.

Monday was great, sunny, shortie, smoothe water, jibable. Best of all it was in Control and Fast. Just what I like.

Again Great Day with great friends. Speaking of friends I saw Dan Burch whom I have not seen in two years. Good to see you Dan.

Maybe we will get lucky and it will blow until the middle of June like it did that one year.

Solid 6.0 day on Juliette, not as windy as sunday but a lot more fun.

But the highlight of the weekend.

Special Olympics Sailing practice was on Lake Tobesofkee Friday. Winds were 12 to 17 knots... perfect for Hobie 16's. (they call it quits at 18 knots)
We had enough time and wind to take each of the kids around the course a couple of times and they all sailed like pro's. The level 1 kids I worked with mainly worked the Jibs but there are some level 3 sailors that actually captain the boats.

Awesome kids
Awesome weekend Biggrin

After work session at Galt's Monday from 4:00-5:30. Typical Galt's NW conditions, powered on a 6.5 in the gusts or slogging. Enough planning runs and carve jibes to make it interesting. I think Doug Bell was there again with longboard and 5.5. There was one other sailer there I never got close too. Might have been the fellow (Mark) that has the house there. -Bill H.

I caught the end of the front @ VP afterwork and managed a few very good runs on the 5.9 with the 100L board.
The VP gang was packing up while I sailed.

What a fantastic front. If we could only get one a week ...

More on Van Pugh Monday, The animal, David W (Peelskid) 7.5, Whimp Gene 5.2 ....

A couple of sailors had an early 2-hour session starting around 9am, on 5.5s and smaller boards. When the afternoon crew arrived around noon, it still was blowing pretty hard. I rigged my 5.2 but while carrying gear to the water, it started dropping. Everyone then stood around awhile trying to decide what to rig. David W rigged his 7.5 and it looked like it was working well. Other sailors rigged in the 7.5 range (me too) and had a good hour or so. Then it started coming back up. It was probably 6.0 conditions but my 5.2 was rigged on the beach so I sailed it on my 130 liter board for awhile. Then it came up more and I sailed it on my 100 liter board until quitting, but was a little under-powered. Albert G came out after work as most of us were finishing up and he did well on a 5.9.

We had a good crowd for a Monday. The morning crew was 3 or 4 sailors and in total we had around 12, I think. It was a nice day. Compared to Sunday, it was peaceful. See Marcel's Sunday photos in the foto gallery.

Of course the wind dropping had absolutely nothing to do with the wind gods seeing Gene carrying a small sail down to the lake's edge...
