look who I ran into in Jax!

Two ex-Atlantans came up and said hello today before I went out.

Glenn Tanner. Fred Dey and regatta host Eduardo Rodrigues (l-r) . Glenn was president of the club when I joined. Fred owned Windsense, our local shop, and was a Mistral factory rep /gear manager for the '96 Olympics in Savannah. Both live near here and learning how to wing foil.

You sure about the l-r? I haven't seen Fred in ages but I thought sure he was the guy on the left.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

You had me do a double take since I posted from my phone and everything was tiny. Yes, that's correct, Glenn is on the left (he's taller).

Edit: Wind readings at the Naval Station next door. We went out for practice and I got drilled having rigged the 8.0. Did keep the foil side down.

Whoa that's nuts. I was going to head up but the forecast looked very reminiscent of the super light wind we had here that fall. Looks like the forecast today vastly underestimated what it was like! We ended up island hopping here on about a 3 mile tack in near perfect 7.0 conditions (side off in a fairly enclosed area heading out to the gulf, very little chop other than a tight spot near a channel).

It doesn't look like a great forecast - we're starting at 9 am to try to squeeze in races before the wind fades in the afternoon. For the longboards, it'll be a great weekend. Excited they are here. For the foilers, it's like a typical SE race: windy as * on Friday and less so on the race days. Lol

Interesting how much the metric as moved for the IQ guys. Their preference is to do slalom until the wind is 15-20. Makes sense, though. Once on a foil, they can make a whole race course that way even with lulls but those same lulls if you are having to tack and then pump off the water are a PITA. All the same, with the recent race in Dunedin, this race, the Steven Smith regatta in Shell Point, it looks like racing is back on the menu after swirling the drain for a long time. Which is great because it really is a social event and it's been fun catching up with friends even ones I've known for ... a long, long time.
