I thought he hated that place. The only reason he goes there is because of his job. I am sure he can't wait to get back to Lanier to use his shiny new jet-ski. Wink

OK here goes... but I hate to follow Nitrojiber's post about Chucks Baja trip and Barrett's Hatteras post from last week.

Saturday, drive day.
Sunday, 7.5 on 130 liter in the morning, then stormy, rainy afternoon.
Monday, same as Sunday, very rainy, i.e. monsoon.
Tuesday, stormy early but then had a nice session from 11 until 3:30, skipped lunch; afraid it would shut down. I started on 7.5 and 130 liter board then tried the 7.5 on the 102 JP Freestyle Wave and it worked fine (I have sailed that board now with sail sizes from 7.5 down to 4.5, it really is an amazing board.) Other sail sizes ranged from 8.0 (Danny J) down to 5.5. It was sunny and nice. Did I mention I love this place?
Wednesday, a nice day, not quite as much wind, so worked on Kiting. Big Al Stewart (previously from Atlanta) and PIP had their kites out too. My kiting still needs a lot of work, but it is fun, and this is definitely the place to work on it.
Today, Thursday, it's nice so far but not too much wind. I hope to mess with the kite more this afternoon.

check out monday at noon, it really did go from not much wind from the east to cranking (and raining sideways) from the west, it was wild!

We're still hoping for some of the hard wind like Barrett tried to use all up last week. AND I DO LOVE THIS PLACE.

Thursday (continued,) the wind never did come up much, I tried to fly the kite without success.
Friday, NO WIND. checked out the shops, bought groceries, Marcel & Blanka stopped by from Nag's Head.
Saturday, kiteBOARDED. Note the Boarded part. I am actually riding now, but still need a lot of practice. We had 5 kites from our house flying and there was some Windsurfing, mainly in the 6.0-7.0 range. Wind was perfect for Kiting, SW which is side shore with a little on-shore?, around 20. I do love this place.

Sunday, not much wind, finally came up in the afternoon, sailed my 7.5 on the 130 liter board.
MONDAY - finally! this what you come to Hatteras for.
Kited in the morning from around 9-11. I'm starting to get the hang of it but still have a lot to work on.
Then it started to blow. I was riding my 6.0 and the F2 Maui Project 100 liter board (the only 100 liter board left) and couldn't seem to get it dialed in. This was the first time I'd ridden it. Anyway, turned out I was just too big on the sail size. I went down to my 5.2 and it was perfect, (Big Al and Wally were running 5.8's.) The board sails nice and I had a real fun afternoon with winds in the 25 to 35 range. I sailed until I was too tired to sail anymore. Then hit the HOT TUB. Life is good and I do LOVE this place.

Tuesday, In the AM, Sailed 6.0 on 100 liter board for a few runs, then wind dropped off. Then flew the kite, then the wind dropped more. Then the wind came up a little, but was straight on shore, tried kiteboarding again but without much success.
Wednesday, Kiteboarded in the morning, and then again in the afternoon. Getting a little bit better. I could have windsurfed but we're running out of days so I'm concentrating on the kiting.
Thursday, dead in the morning, but wind came up later in the afternoon, south 15-20. Kiteboarded, wrapped the lines (it takes a while to straighten out that mess), then was a little overpowered, had a couple of hard falls (face plant?) and it does hurt, almost lost my board, and then was overpowered. It sure was FUN! I still have alot to learn and am running out of days. I love this place.

Final Report-

Friday, Kited in the morning, got out early when it wasnt crowded and this seemed to really help. I had alot of rides and even made some progress on going up wind. It is alot of fun. I still have alot to learn.
I Windsurfed after lunch on my 6.0 and 100 liter board. It blew pretty hard but after a couple of hours I was tired out and had to start packing up.

Saturday was drive day, 10 depressing hours.

Over all, it was a good trip. We did not get the hoped for Hard Wind but I did end up Sailing or Kiting ( or attempting to Kite) every day except one. Messing with the Kite really helped as on the so/so days for windsurfing, trying to learn to Kite was still very exciting.

And ...... I DO LOVE THAT PLACE!
