Gotta be honest, this might be useful

Upside: Boost motor to get you up on those light days.
Downside: A hundred idiots on Lanier with these.

12k. Not a user friendly price. Assuming the tech and initial development costs can come down in price, it would be probably still be the cost of a new WS board+cost of Hydro foil+tech. Say 2k+2k+1k. Kind of a lot, but it is cool.

Whenever I see something like this I wonder why things that are wind powered seem so much more interesting to me than other forms of recreation. Human powered stuff for me is in second place. Motor/engine powered - way down the list. The Opti-foil in the other thread is much more interesting to me. I guess part (but not all) of it is that once you figure it out, it seems like it might become boring. Since you can never figure the wind out - its a lot harder for it to get boring.

With kitefoils for $500 on Alibaba, I'm thinking these will get a lot cheaper before long. The best part is the built-in fire suppression - unlike a cheap Hoverboard, the motor here is underwater. Biggrin

Foil $500, cheap epoxy board a la SUPs at Costco/Sams, $600, motor $500(?).

I'm like you though. It's the unrequited love we give the wind.

Ouch, that's a little close to home.

We love the wind, but it doesn't seem to love us back. Esp. starting about this time of year. I feel a few re-writes coming on. Guess I will have plenty of time to work on them.

Or one of the greatest all time classics on the subject:
