Friday 3/22-Whaddyaknow?

After watching temps and windspeeds since early morning, I had decided that the day was not going to happen.
In any case, I was in the Clarkston area and I had all my gear and suddenly decided to go.  Leaving town at 3:30 on a Friday, I was telling myself "this is stupid".   Traffic, however, was not that bad and I was on the water by 4:45.  Big and pleasant surprise - after one half hour rocking the E-rock with a 7.0, I rigged my 5.6 on my wave board and had some big fun til past sunset.  The gamble payed off this time.  Thursday was warm and fun, but Friday was sweet.

windsurfing is inherently "stupid".  therefore your going to the lake is in keeping with the theme of the sport.  Glad you got a sesh in.  I was trying to go Fri am but the thermometer didn't cooperate, as it actually got colder till about 9-10 am.  And I do mean colder (I think below freezing)

thursday looked like it would have been a blast, though.

I want to sail so bad but I have drawn the limits by temperatures.  If it is forcast to be 50 or below and the water temp is under 55 ( no matter how good the day ) I will pass. I think age is playing a part here but I know that Chris P. is at least 250 years older than me. Why am I such a wimp?  It's too late to change now.

Go Chris Go!!  Go Chris Go !!

Re: Friday 3/22-Whaddyaknow?

I went to Galts Friday abou 11 AM, and dragged Jerry along.  I sailed 7.2 for about 1.5 hours then dropped down to 6.0 for 45 minutes, though probably would have been fine with the 7.2.  The wind was pretty strong in the gusts and easy to get planing, but too weak t do so in the lulls. It was cold, though only my hand noticed.  I got used to it and didn't feel anything till I got some water in my gloves. Wind speed that I measured averaged only 8 kt, but gusts were topping out over 15.  Lots of whitecaps in the gusts.  In other words, a typical gusty day at Galts.

I would have been better off waiting, but thought the wind would die when it warmed up.  What the heck, it will probably be our last really arctic blast for a long time.  Won't be long and we'll miss it.

Ironic - it was the first "official" day Galts was open for business, and the 2nd day of spring.  Apparently no one told the weatherman.
