Cocoa Report

This past weekend, I made a quick trip down to Mouse Town with Princess, who was meeting a friend. She asked for some company on the trip and with the forecast looking decent for Saturday, we left early Friday morning.

Stayed at a cheapo hotel Friday night but found Lisa found me a nice AirBnB room in a neighborhood near Kelly Park for Saturday. If you are headed that way, PM me for details if you are looking for an inexpensive place to stay.

The sailing Saturday was dodgy at best. Instead of clearing up as forecast, I ended up sailing between storms. Sailed a bit in the morning at Kelly Park (Calema/Tinho's). The big news there is that some Eco-tour kayaking outfit has put up a 30x30 trailer on the rigging grass right by the boat launch beside Tinho's shop. There may be a second unit coming, too. It's a bummer as it takes up a fair amount of space in that area and there's real concern about the ability to host events there.

In the afternoon, sailed on the southside of the FL 520 causeway (next one down, by the hospital). I joined another windsurfer and about six kites. Like earlier, I had the almost wide board (83cm) and 9.5. Planed enough to sucker some kites out but they stayed mostly on the beach. It's always surprising how easy it is to plane on flat salt water. It's a good thing I didn't take the Formula as even the 56cm fin was touching bottom a few times causing a couple of emergency dismounts. A dark cloud on the horizon with electricity convinced me to go in - wisely so. Just after rolling up the sail, the squall hit and the wind had to be blowing 40. It's not surprising that the unsettled atmosphere spawned TS Emily within 36 hours.

Finally, after all these years, sprung for a Sun Pass so now I can take the BMW lanes up 85 during crowded afternoons to Van Pugh.

Saw this at Kelly Park. It would make an interesting windsurf chariot, especially if you have an old race board:

Re: Cocoa Report

Thanks for the Cocoa Report and update on local conditions. By the way, I read that Huguenot State Park has reopened near Jacksonville.
