Blowing Wednesday too

Another fine day on the Hobie Cat. Not as much wind at Tuesday but still a great day.

Water sure is warm.

I think a 7.5 or 8.0 would have worked fine Wed. but there were a few lulls to deal with.

I am starting the like the area of Sunrise Cove and Old Federal. One reach across this area has to be 1.5 to 2 miles.

just dont let the water get in your mouth. That used to be the most polluted area on the lake from chicken plants

I like chicken. I guess you don't. Gene smokes enought to choke an elephant.

Pat & I sailed yesterday morning at Van Pugh. When I arrived there were caps, but by the time I got on the water at 11 AM it was on the decline. A few rides is better than no windsurfing in the summer.

Good spots to teach kids?!

Is the Old Federal and the park /ramp close to it a good windsurf spot? Is this the area still polluted? I drove by a few times and seems like a good spot but 'm not familiar with the rea . I'm new to windsurfing in Lake Lanier, moved to Buford and looking for a good area on the lake to windsurf and teach my boys!!!

Thanks!

Old Federal is another site that we sometimes use, but Van Pugh is the most popular for windsurfing. You are more likely to meet other windsurfers at Van Pugh. We often post before heading to the Lake and list the site we plan to use.

Hello. I used to sailboard at Key Biscayne, Miami, FL years ago, but am now looking for lakes close to Roswell, GA? If anyone has any suggestions, that would be great. Have been to Lake Allatoona a couple of times when I lived in Marietta--the drought made it a little harder to get to water, but I am ready to get out again and teach my four children.

Thanks, Shawn

There's a link on the left of this page, Knowledge - Places to Sail, that should help you out. But here's the scoop: On Lanier, the main sailing spot is Van Pugh, which we sail on sw/W/NW/N/NE/E winds. If theres alot of south in it, Van Pugh gets a wind shaddow. Then Old Fed or Sunrise Cove may be better. Also, Old Fed does not have as much boat traffic and related chop so is easier for less experienced sailors. Most of the windsurfing on Lanier is done from Van Pugh.

We sail Vanns Tavern on ne/E/SE winds. If there's alot on North in it, it get's swirly coming over the trees as it's side off. On an East wind, Van Pugh and Vanns Tavern are both good.

On Lake Allatoona, the main site is Gaults Ferry.

South Wind, I dont know!
