New Year's Eve turned out to be a great windsurfing day for those who rigged right. The parking lot was almost full when I arrived at 1PM, but a lot of guys were waiting to rig. It was a tough call when we first arrived because the wind was over the N. GA mountains, setting up an alternating cycle of up and down winds. By mid-afternoon the wind shifted to the NW and became steadier. I went out with a 5.9m sail and 100 liter board and was rigged right for a great session. Late afternoon the wind dropped. I rigged a 7.0 meter sail which was just right. Gene converted to kiting and had a good run. Albert and Alan were the last guys off the water as the wind continued blowing, but the temp. dropped to 43F as the sun set on a fun day.
From Barrett's description it sounds like you made it out into the water with your board. How was it? Did you make it back to the same spot you left from? Did you catch any air?
No damage done, no one got hurt and I didnt have to swim back, so I think it was successful. I did make a few runs but stayed in the protected area (Bozo Cove.)
Right!!! Wed. is looking like a classic day at the Lake with strong NW wind. Doesn't this qualify as the Icebreaker?
