Windsurfing at Junior Week

This was a huge hit with the 70+ kids at the annual LLSC camp. Not all got to try it, but those that did were pretty stoked on windsurfing. We set up three beginner boards with multiple sail options ranging from 1.2 to 5.5 meters and we used them all. Chris Pyron was on hand to help on both Tuesday and Thursday evening to instruct and, (having superior insight into the learning process), he took a lot of the younger ones for rides on the bow of a Superlight. That was the perfect first intro to WSing-- they loved it.

We had PERFECT conditions both days with a 5-10 kt breeze blowing side shore on the beach... a few blew down into the cove where we could easily retrieve them. So as to give as many as possible a chance to taste WSing, their lessons were fairly brief but every single kid was able to get up and sailing. A good many even tacked and returned to the starting point.

Many thanks to Gene & Windsense for loaning the Nova (great board) and the kayak. Also to Willliam & Simon Fragakis who helped teach and loaned their Start and a load of kid sails. And to Chris Pyron for his help with equipment and teaching.

Chris & I were rewarded after dark Thursday, after getting all the kid stuff put away, with a brief but very cool session with planing conditions in the bay off the point of the clubhouse. We later heard, "Was that you out there? You guys were flying!" Maybe we planted the seeds for a future crop of young rippers.
