Just curious if anyon e has had any experiance sailing the miami-key Biscayne area. I will be flying to Miami on the 9th and returning on the 13th. Gear rental is $150 a day, so I may take my own gear. (if its windy at all). Im flying Delta and have got many versions of what they charge for extra oversized luggage. Just dont want to get hit with $500 worth of charges. Any help would be appreciated. Tahnks, Trey

David,
Thanks for the help. Where did you rent from? Looks like it has been windy 3-4 days a week there (shortboard conditions). Any one have info on how much it has cost them to fly their equipment down? Talk to one person from Delta (In India) and they say $100 per oversized bag, each way. Talk to another person from delta (In Pakistan) and they say $25.00 per bag. I know I will show up at the airport and will be met with a huge bill that Im not sure I want to pay. Any help would be great. Thanks, Trey
Trey,
Last time I checked (summer '06) Delta was charging $100 each way for windsurf equipment. It's listed somewhere on Delta.com, but it was hard to find.
$150 per day seems very expensive.

Trey,
Found it, here is the link to the windsurfing bagage policy.

waterplay also rents gear, http://www.water-play.com>neil pryde, starboard, etc i fly delta exclisively and I would advise you print a copy of the windsurfing policy as they are not that familular with windsurfing gear, and if your nice sometimes they will let you slipi it on for free.

This message brought to you by delta airlines, delta is ready when you are, we are just not to happy about it.
Thanks everyone. Danny, I read the Delta policy and it says $100.00 per windsurfing bag. Obviously I have the board bag and sails bag. Thats $200 so far. Is that round trip? I will try Waterplay as well. Thanks for the help, Trey
the time i took my gear they let me check it for free, I had one bag with sails, mast boom and board packed in it. I would suggest the rental option, that way you are insured to have the right gear for the conditions, big or small. Typically $100 each way, and the difficulty you will have is if you call they will tell you one thing and the check in clerk will say another. Also you might check with Andrew Byers, he works for delta and travels a lot. You might fond his email address in the membership list here at ABC. Good luck!
Trey,
I took a few sails to Maui last summer and Delta did not charge me anything for these. Granted , they were small sails.
