Upgrading Board, Sail, Fin for speed. Where are the real differences?

https://www.surf-magazin.de/windsurfen/how-to/tipps-und-tricks/tuning-special-so-machst-du-dein-freeride-material-schneller/

article is in German but both Chrome and Firefox can translate.

Neat article which shows which upgrades* matter and by how much.

*I use the word upgrade in the sense that most performant pieces of kit tend to cost more. That doesn't mean they are more suitable, though. Your kit should match your skills and objectives. I've seen early intermediates waste money on "race" gear despite their good intentions. If it's hard to sail and keeps you from progressing or even having fun, it's not really an upgrade.

Seems like free-race sails are quite a bit less expensive and give you great bang for the buck, as do smaller foil wings (if the platform supports it). For speed anyway. No clue on fins as I don't think I've hit the speed limit on my fin gear yet (or have I? I'm not really regularly in the high 20kts there even).

Nice article. Dang, I read this after just plunking down a good wad of cash on a new free race board and a twin cam sail (my first cam sail in 20 years!). Guess I need to start saving for some high end fins.

Anyway, after several years of going foil crazy, I’m itching to try something new. I have never been a speed guy, but going faster on fin gear is what I’m shooting for this year.

Oh, you must go to OBX Wind. You must, you must, you must. This sounds exciting - glad you are finding new challenges and avenues on the water! If you care to share your new found goods, a few gear hounds here would love to hear the details.
