Tybee report - flattened by the big wind

Thursday turned out to be a nice little session. Water temp 57 with air temp around 70.

The wind showed up late but myself and about a dozen kitters had a good pm sail off the front beach on the south end of the island.

The 7.5 was a bit under powered to start but was a handfull at the end. Small shore break. Chop from waist high with an occasional shoulder high boomer coming through. At the end of the session the chop was too steep .... Had to carve the front faces on the toes and dig the heels in to reach back to windward. Gene's fun scale 7 out a 10.

Friday was a different story. The wind was crankin about 30 mph gusting to who knows what. My smallest sail is a 5.2 and I have determined that it is pretty much worthless. If you can sail a 5.2 you're probably good for a 6.0. need to drop from a 6.0 to a 4.2.

The gps showed top speed of about 30 mph with the sail sheeted all the way out. I made 4 white knuckel tacks then spent about an hour and a half sailing down the beach (straight down wind) looking for a wind shadow. Never found a workable shadow. Luckly the camera crew (my son) drove the truck around for a 'remote retrieval.'

Gene's fun scale 1 out of 10 .... Great work out though. Lol Lol
