I took first shift. Rigged the postage stamp. Still overpowered a lot of the time but it was a blast. Very nice, clean swells on the ride downwind. Easy gusts 30+ but you'll have to believe me because a) Gilmer was down today and b) a crew from Sawnee EMC was hanging in the parking lot. They were on call waiting for the inevitable downed trees because of the high winds today. Up by Three Sisters, going upwind was like having my head out the window going up 85. Lots of wind noise. Maybe I should start wearing goggles?
Barrett and Channey took second shift. For context, below, that's a 370 mast sticking out the head of my sail at 0 extension.
So I took the only shift at Hartwell (singing pines. It's open!!!)
Rigged a 5.0 and was pretty optimized for several hours. There were holes in the breeze....but not bad. And when on...perfect! The real show stealer were the waves. Wow. Not necessarily clean, tho there were sections/periods of cleanliness. Lots of fun. No speeding, just fun bouncing, surfing,.jumping (all pretty new to me stuff, but water was not bad and I didn't just feel like I was hanging on for dear life). Made the drive a bit on a whim. glad you all had a good/safe time on lanier
Gary, thank you so much for sharing the session with us. Even though I'd been out myself today, it still gave me great joy to read about another session - especially since it seems you were so dialed in to conditions which aren't so common.
Channey & I sailed the 2nd shift, as Webguy came in off the water. It was so nice to rig in the warm sun & not need gloves or mittens. We both windsurfed. I rigged a down-hauled 6.0m wave sail & Channey a 7.0m 3 cam race sail.
Here are a couple of photos of Channey hanging on.
I will try.
