Re: Sat. NW wind

As the wind report shows, it was a wild day at the Lake. Gene briefly headed out on his foil board with a 5.2m sail, but was immediately overpowered. Chris P., Ed & I windsurfed with sails in the 4.9 - 5.5m range. Although the NW wind direction made it easy to launch a short board, away from shore wind was fierce, with spray blowing horizontally off wave tops. The challenge was sailing through strong gusts followed by deep lulls.

Correction - I was on my 4.5 sail, I rigged my 5.2 but thankfully Ed talked me out of it, or I might still be out there now.

Re: Sat. NW wind

Al and I went to West Bank Park on Lake Lanier and Wing Foiled. We launched at 1:30 and I only foiled 30 minutes. It was great ( gusty, but great). It was my first time on "Neils 5m^2". I needed a smaller foil than my MA 1225. Al was out a bit longer. If we had been out in the 50mph gust, I'd rather be on a WF than I think any of the other gear...

Photo from Big Wind Saturday of Ed windsurfing near a huge flock of terns that formed a line along the far shore of the Lake.

Are you sure it wasn't a flock of... oh, nevermind. The early 80s were an interesting time. I think I can play that key board part. Missed you guys but it was warmer where I was.

Did you note the signs before or after your session? Lol Surprised no one joined you. There was a chap asking on FB kiters and thought he might have shown up.
