Sat 8/27 Hurricane Irene

N15 G25 (NWS Marietta) Thinking about heading to Galt's on Sat around noon for a couple hours, if I can manage it. Gainsville is showing NW15 G25 so VP looks to be good too.

Better sail now because it looks like the house in Hatteras is going to be blown away.

We've been upgraded to 15 to 25 via NOAA

Re: Sat 8/27 Hurricane Irene

It was a great afternoon at the Lake. The wind came up at 4PM from the NNW and was still blowing when I left at 7PM. I saw ten windsurfers on the water at one point, with about 15 total for the afternoon.

The wind in Nags Head reached about 60 mph with gusts to 70 mph and is now diminishing. I didn't see any gauges on the Outer Banks reach sustained Hurricane Force today, but the Windmill Point gauge and some other sites went down at 5:30 PM with the wind at 55mph gusting to 68mph.

Re: Sat 8/27 Hurricane Irene

I was up at Sunrise Cove as it was a lot closer to my gear. Really puffy. Either not windy enough to get on a plane or very powered on my 7.7.

Absolute Kooksville, though. After perfecting my transitions this summer in Hatteras, I made maybe two all day. With the warm water, I wasn't very motivated and was just as happy to fall in and cool off and take a breather.

Very nice way to enjoy August.
