I went to vanns late yesterday - 5:39 in the water - haha. Talked to Al after and he said "everyone" was there earlier.
Sam and I went to vanns on Sat and he tried to kitefoil and didn't quite go ( he has before, but getting off the shore... yea Rhett I hear you - haha), but we learned a lot and were safe and a Good Samaritan checked on him while I was just on my way out to help him drag the gear in. I went and met and said thank you to "Jr" and he was very kind, and in spite of health issues and too high wind for them in the pontoon boat, he/they had checked on Sam while another boat had simply passed as sam drifted downwind.
Then last night I was alone at dusk except for car that pulled up. I gave him/them a second glance and a friendly wave before going in. Turns out they stayed and kept an eye out for me (I later learned). I saw his headlights while foiling - it was good - a short sesh. While packing up in the rain, I met Isaac and his older kids. They were interested in the gear and what it was - we discussed that. Then he said "...we need to look out for each other - regardless of race or whatever...". It was quite a moment for me given what I have been pondering and what I had been discussing with an old - close friend on the way to vanns. Pirsigs books and threads around ways of thinking that help/hinder, caring, and relationships.
