Re: Another bad Lanier movie

There was a guy on TV the other day that said it was the deadliest lake in America. Something like 700 deaths.....not to mention the haunted graves at Bozo island. People need to know this stuff.

Did you hear about the Van Pugh slasher? Apparently there are people there brandishing long sharp objects on weekends. I don't know anything about it personally but lots of people have been saying it. Just asking questions! Lol

Wait... what was the first bad Lanier movie?

Randy, Lakes Michigan, Superior, Erie, etc would like to have a word with that guy about Lanier being the deadliest. Seven hundred sounds like a lot but the lake is over 65 years old and at 10-15 victims a year (we've had some pretty bad years for drowning in the past and why swimming isn't allowed at Lake Lanier Islands), that's just the math.

As a past dinghy sailor, that Danger Lake poster is hilarious. To be honest, that's about as homicidal as any inland sailor will feel: no wind in a dinghy on a hot summer day. If it's during a race, it becomes a code red situation.

Re: Another bad Lanier movie

This explains a lot. Until now I was oblivious to “Lanier” movies. So when I’ve pulled into a couple of gas stations to fill up, folks have noticed my boards and asked where I sail. When I’ve responded Lanier. I’ve been told to be careful “cause that Lake is haunted”.

So let’s hope the latest Lanier movie keeps boat traffic away.

Now that you mention it, a year or so ago my sister asked if the lake haunted as well. She also heard there was town that was covered up by the lake, and a grave yard was as well. So the story has spread at least as far as Indiana. Unfortunately, it seems Georgia boaters are just not afraid of ghosts....

Grieving mom wants to drain Lake Lanier.
I would be opposed to that.

Only when the massive lake is completely drained can officials safely remove hazardous material and “implement improved safety measures at the lake to ensure the well-being of all individuals engaging in personal watercraft and recreational activities,” Foster claimed.

I figure if they did I might be able to get back all the sunglasses I lost in the lake. Could be several dozens.

Grief makes some people reach out for any possible reason to understand what happened to them including this misguided idea that draining and refilling the lake would somehow keep boaters from doing goofy things.

fwiw, dredging the lake is not as easy as it seems. Heavy metals (minerals, not music), pollutants like PCBs and other stuff settle and precipitate out and if they tried to dredge it, all sorts of nasty stuff would be stirred up.

Randy, along with your sunglasses, there are at least several phones under our dock creating all sorts of navigational hazards.

Not to mention the E-Coli levels in the lake and Chattahoochee if they stirred up the bottom. I wouldn’t go near it for a couple years if that happened.

I see no way it would be feasible to drain it, too many rely on water and electricity from Lanier.
