3/22-3/27 Cocoa Beach trip report

Jerry Farr and I are down in Cocoa Beach/Titusville trying to do some kiting. I drove down Sunday, kited at Titusville Monday (without much success), kited Cocoa Beach (Hwy 520) Tuesday (without much success) and Wednesday (some success). Jerry has done well the whole time. I finally had a decent session today, then went back for a second session and had my butt handed to me. In kiting, it's not the walk of shame, it's a downwinder. This afternoon was the second downwinder I've had in three days. Still alot of fun and no damage done. I hope to do better tomorrow, and then drive back on Friday.

We started out camping at Jetty Park where it's $35 a night to tent camp without water and elelctricity. We then moved to Manatee Hamock Campgrond which is half way between the kiting spots at Cocoa Beach and Titusville and it's $23 a night with Electricity, water and Internet. ALso you can add a second tent on a site for no extra charge, jetty park charges an extra $10. Anyway, Jetty park is still a nice campground and it real close to Calema Windsurfing.

Oh and we have had some wind. The first two days were around 15 mph, OK for kiting, and today was around 20+.

Later,

We kited Titusville Thursday, with winds 20 +. I had an OK session followed by a Not-OK session, and another downwinder (walk of shame.) Jerry is doing great, working on jumps and some kind of jibe turn. There was a good crowd of Kiters (I dont like crowds) and some put on quite a show with super high jumps.

Friday was my drive back day, Jerry is staying a few more days. Good trip, Good wind.

There's no walk of shame around here. You got some quantity and quality kite time on the water which is what counts.

Where there any windsurfers out at Cocoa or Titusville ?

There were windsurers at Calemas at Cocoa Beach. There was one windsurfer at Titusville on the first not so windy day, but none on the windy day. On the windy day, the 20 + mph wind was blowing straight across the causeway, with superflat water and about 10 or so kiters. The water was shallow right at the causeway but was waist or chest deep further out, so it would have been a great place to windsurf but it was a kiter place, I guess. The straight off shore wind and the deeper water and the number of other kiters there was part of the reason for my downwinder. I dont like deep water and crowds when I'm trying to kite.
