A tropical storm developing off the Yucatán Peninsula has the potential to bring NE wind on Wed. - Thurs. I’m keeping my schedule open & hope we get good wind after the rain.
The storm is now named Idalia & is forecast to become a hurricane hitting FL & possibly Charleston.

I see a forcast for Wed wind, not Thurs wind ...
I plan on heading up to the Van Pugh on Wednesday Afternoon. Forecast showing 15 to 20 .
I'm planning on being up there right at 1:00
Hmm, looks like we'll be on the "wrong" side of the storm for strong wind. Feeling for our buddies in Tallahassee. 110+ mph at landfall in the big bend. The topography there really jacks up the storm surge right at Shell Point, their race site. Just out of sight to the left in this photo is their trailer full of training gear. They are probably moving it inland to higher ground right now. Surge warnings down to Tampa too.
.
I'm on the edge of the current forecast landfall. Hoping it doesn't swing more east like it did last year, that would put us right in the path. I'm at higher elevation inland so wind and projectiles are probably the main concenr.
I just talked to Gene who is in FL considering his options. He sent a link to this cool tool that I've never seen before:

Looks like Wednesday afternoon could bring some gusts , especially if the rain cooperates by not interfering too much.
How does Tidwell Park compare to Van Pugh for NE winds?
Thx,
-Stuart
Windsurfed last Wednesday at Van Pugh with same wind direction. It was a good day only two of us out there.
Tidwell is a little bit further for me I have been there many times. I like it.
I tend to go to Van Pugh or Old Federal.

Am watching the forecast and thinking about Allatoona / Galts area this afternoon (Wed).
Will be at VP or Vanns - 11am
Maybe second shift action for me.
Watching GVL for wind direction /s
Some locals were able to go out yesterday with 4.7s/fins after finding a spot that was accessible. All the gulf parks were closed.
I never lost power here, so I was stuck working. Happy that it wasn't worse though.
15mph+ wind 3:45pm - 5:15 at Galts Wednesday. Later part was in heavy rain, but never saw lightning. Very nice.
I went outside of work about every 30 minutes looking for trees moving and never saw much. GVL was reporting 7 mph with occasional gusts near 20.
Maybe Friday morning will be good
Apparently there is a missing windsurfer down here. Not sure what happened as that is a protected area (banana river), unless it surged over the barrier islands into the intercostal?
From last Wednesday's keelboat racing when the weather came in.

I did a sailboat race from Anacortes to Roche harbour (with overnight stay in a hotel then sailing back to finish the race the next day). The first morning looked a lot like that, with a few blown spinnakers as well as some people in the water (saved by harness/lines). One of the previous 1st place cats had a pitchpole and tossed I think 7 sailors in the water, was tied up, and rescued later when the water was calmer.
That boat (Dragonfly) was visible from 405 or i5, can't remember, for a while as it was being repaired in drydock.
From onboard, after I dug up the pic, looks like it's not quite as windy as that pic you shared
