snap (no krackle or pop). My 460 decided it wanted to be in 3 pieces, not two. Many thanks to Joe O'L. who towed my butt in most of the way. And thanks to Gene who greeted me on shore with "need any help?"
Gene figured I had things in hand, which I did. Joe just took a bit of the time and PITA factor out of it as I wasn't that far upwind of the launch when things went pow.
Sails from mid 6's to mid 7's worked. Wind came in cycles but the 70 degree temps made us much more forgiving for any lulls.
Was the mast a high carbon content mast? I've broken 4 masts - two were 100%, one was 90% and one was 75%. I've wondered if the higher content masts break more often. Never broke a ro% or 30% for ex, though I don't use them very often.
On a related note, I have a couple of 460 tops, in case that's what you broke.

I think it was 60%. My only other break was a 100% which lasted exactly all the way from VP to Aqualand (but not back)
Thanks for the offer of tops but I broke the other half (trying like crazy to avoid a conversation about tops and bottoms) just below the boom. Lucky it was in the cut out so no damage to the luff sleeve.
I'm thinking of trying Vann's Tavern after lunch, maybe. Anybody else?

I think that is where they almost always break.
