Anyone windsurf at St Simon's recently? Last time I went there is probably over 10 years ago.
There used to be a sand bar 1/4 mile out... but storms/currents may have changed that. Forecast for this weekend looks really good for both Sat/Sun. If it holds up it would be totally worth the 5 hours drive.

On another forum I follow it was reported that the hurricanes didn't do much to SSI or Jekyll. I asked the guy who lives there if the SSI sandbar is still out there. If it makes a difference, there was a long sandbar coming out from Jekyll as recently as last May, and it has been there for the last several years. I saw guys kitesurfing out there at the time. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

My contact said he didn't notice whether there was a sandbar there, but did see several windsurfers.

I haven't been there in 10 years myself, but my 'in-the-know' contact told me there have been some significant changes to the sandbars, but the windsurfing is still fine. You may to carry your gear a VERY long way at low tide when rigging from the sailing club near the coast guard station.
I am toying with the idea of heading down myself.

The more the better.
We are planning on leaving very early on Saturday to be there by noon.
Another option is Huguenot Park in Jacksonville. Will see which has better forecast in next two days.
Anyone else for a road trip?

Huguenot is a fun place to sail but for those that are sailing in the inside tide pool, mind high/low tide.
Minus the drive...St Simons is looking really good.

Blythe County Park and Huguenot camping is closed due to damage from Irma.

If it's just the camping at huguenot that's closed, you may want to try the camping at Talbot or Hannah parks. They're both close to huguenot (and the camping was nicer.) It's been awhile but I've camped at both parks and drove to huguenot to sail. You have to take the ferry over if you stay at Hannah. If my memory is correct, as it was many years ago. Also, these parks might also be closed.

It was closed until this past Jan for storm damage repair. Closed again for Irma repair but apparently just reopened for beach access only.
"Huguenot Park reopened 9/27/17 to beachgoers only. The campground and shelters remain closed. Hours are 7AM - 7PM."

St. Augustine just to the south is a decent intermediate place to sail (flat water) at. iirc, Anastasia Park if someone is down that way and Huguenot doesn't work. Not quite as bad tide-wise, either.
