Hurricane Hermine Bringing Wind to Atlanta

Finally the forecast has more than a few random dots. Real NE wind is on it's way, hopefully ahead of the rain. I'm on alert for sailing at Van Pugh on Friday.

Are you foiling tomorrow or keeping the fin side down?

Gene, enjoy the Aqualand wind shadow. Sailing through that is like listening to fingernails on a chalkboard. Lol

"Gene, enjoy the Aqualand wind shadow." ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

William, have fun trying to get off the beach at Vanns Tavern with a NORTH east wind.

The dead spot in the middle downwind of the islands. Also lots of fun because of the converging chop from the main channel and the Aqualand bay. The shadow at VP Vanns (thanks, Gene for pointing that out) is at most 20-25 yards and a lot of time, I can beach start straight away. Seeing what the shadow is like in the hole at VP on a west, it's nothing. Yeah, there's a shadow there but there isn't one in the middle unless you get too close to the island.

I realize VP is two hops and a skip from your house. I'd go there, too, if I lived that close. You'll have a good time, I'll have a good time. I'll just have a better time if I don't have to sail through that spot. It's all good. Yes 3

Re: Hurricane Hermine Bringing Wind to Atlanta

You know, William could be right and Vanns Tavern may work .....

IF the forecast changes to SouthEast, or

IF the lake level drops another 10 feet overnight so you have enough beach at Vanns Tavern to walk further out, after dragging your gear down the hill, or

IF Low Pressures suddenly start rotating clockwise, or

IF the earth shifts on it's axis - https://www.google.com/maps/@34.2386757,-83.976491,4078a,20y,90h/data=!3m1!1e3

All in fun, let's just meet in the middle.

Correction - "The shadow at VP Vanns Tavern is at most 20-25 yards and a lot of time, I can beach start straight away."

Sorry Gene, but if the earth's axis shifts as shown in your picture the wind may shift with it though the poles will shift which may have unpredictable effects. Atlanta will be a lot colder climate.

What happens in a black hole stays in a black hole.

Re: Hurricane Hermine Bringing Wind to Atlanta

Yesterday at Van Pugh, Barrett (7.0) and I (NEW 6.0 Ezzy Lion 3) had a solid hour of hard wind from 11:30 till 12:30, and then ...
everyone else came out as I slogged in as the wind dropped. We all hung around, ate lunch, shot the breeeze, etc for awhile but not much happened. Besides Barrett and me, Chris Foilboy, Scott and Brooke, Dave W, Jim C, Dave D and Chris (?) were there.

How did y'all do at Vanns' Tavern?

Re: Hurricane Hermine Bringing Wind to Atlanta

I had a great time, especially to 12:30 or so. I probably had my longest fast run.
I am practicing new to me turning methods including a new favorite... Sail from Vanns Tavern to Old Federal campground...put rig on shore...beg campers for food...return to beach....turn the rig around at the shore....sail back.

Special thanks to Chris P and William for coaching with my gybes.

Yes! They do very a very good job explaining things.

I am planning on going to Old Fed this Saturday around 11 and rigging small (maybe 4.7m on the NSP WindSUP) or the AHD and practice gybes, fast tacks and falling off the board.
