Friday Lunch

I'm optimistic. 9 is almost 10 and that would mean dots. Windmapper is calling 9-14, too. It's 90 degrees. We'll be begging for a day like this in a few months.

btw, in case you missed it, windfinder has updated their maps windy.com style

Meanwhile, NOAA has removed the dots from their forecast and predicting a solid 7 mph in their model but only 5mph* in their text forecast, while Iwindsurf is somewhere in between Windfinder and NOAA. I'd say believe what works best for you. Remember - in windsurfing, failure is just success that hasn't happened yet. (And likely won't happen.)

* There is also that 50% rain forecast, but who can count to 50%.

I missed the decent chance for rain. eff it. If it's not lightning, I'll take the chance. I have to put my new found windsurf conditioning to practice. As much time as I've spent chasing bugs on this goofy site this week, I feel entitled.

Re: Friday Lunch

Well the dots have been restored by NOAA. I read a book once about sailing. This is an example of something I read about in a book years ago. Yesterday the forecast had dots. Last night the dots were gone. This morning they are back. It's a "shift change forecast" - the guys doing the forecasts change so the forecasts change.

It's going to be hot and I'm not sure about the wind, but I plan to head to Old Federal today.

Will webguy wasn't looking got a couple shots of his gear.

First shot: webguy finally figured out how to use his wool ski socks from 1978. At least his foil won't get frostbite this winter.
Second shot: I don't think webguy really foils. It looks he just uses the thing for a rash guard drying rack.

No very windy but ok day at Old Fed. Randy played with his kiteBOAT, Chris P longboarded on ?, David W and I sailed 7.5s on SUPs (non planing), David D was able to kite on his 17 meter, and Steve Hause and Richard Harvey windsurfed the late shift.

Wow - just me at Van Pugh. Glad people got out. Flew about 30% of the time on foil/Formula/8.0. First outing on 8.0 since April when I didn't have a clue of what to do on it. Bigger sail is more finicky in trim so it took a while to figure it out as well as tweak boom height, etc. I didn't do an A/B test but it felt like I was planing as early on 8.0+foil as 9.5+fin.

Didn't get a lot of time to sort out going upwind in light air but am interested to see how I'd do vs raceboard in 8-12 like we had yesterday when a regular Formula would have gotten killed because of the lulls.

Re: Friday Lunch

As usual when the kiteboat was working the camera wasn't and vice versa, but I did get some short clips. The first one shows that things sometimes go wrong - even for me. (So foilers stop feeling sorry for yourselves when things don't go perfectly. It can happen to anyone.) The middle clip was my best run but naturally my battery died. The last part was actually from Wed and was pretty much underpowered.
