I will probably join you Wednesday afternoon at Old Fed if the wind stays from the West

Barret (7.0), Chris P (6.0) and I (5.2 foil, shortboard, foil) did early shift. Chris V (5.5 foil) and ShredDog (6.5) took late shift. 15-25 in the middle tapering off to 12-20.

I'm tired.

A wild ride at Galt's on an 8.5. Way overpowered in the gusts and pinching upwind at an insane angle. I almost foiled a few times just on the fin. Managed tear a hole in the sail too.

Well, that wasn't my finest hour, it was pretty gusty... I"d like to think I was better but I guess I'm still at the suckage stage.

Thanks Chris. btw, Haircut 100 makes for a FINE foiling soundtrack (Randy, are you listening? Biggrin )

Windlord, 8.5? How was the ride back downwind?

Watching that video reminded me of something I saw on,TV. Struggling foilers need foilagara to help them to get it up and most importantly keep it up. Ask you Doctor if foilagara is right for you.

Downwind was fine. Bearing off through the reach is scary though. Shok

Didn't think I'd go today, but with the forecast upped to NW15 G25, the wind siren is calling my name. I plan to sail at Van Pugh after lunch.

Re: Cold Front Tues and Wed

I work in cumming and i can see the trees swaying back in forth like a big green finger beckoning me to the lake... unfortunately my employer also chains us to the desk and doesn't unlock us until 5 so I'll have to try and catch the tail end of things tonight at Old Fed.

On another note, did anyone leave some water booties at Old Fed last night? If so, I have them.

Thanks!

Re: Cold Front Tues and Wed

Barret, Rhett and Z beat me to VP this afternoon, Ed came late. Another good day. 5.2 on foil board; I didn't suck quite as much after doing a little tuning. (for CV - took a washer out of stab, mast base back 3cm, mast up 2cm, harness lines back 2cm. Didn't want to reach for the sky when overpowered although take offs took more effort with the washer out. Got another crack. CF fabric ordered.)

Gene came by to complain about the cold. Sunday will thrill him. Shok

David S., maybe pm Gene and see if he has numbers or emails of the other guys that were there that aren't regulars on this board.

Edit: Interesting map of US temps today. We were cooler than Bismark, ND. Gene was on to something.

Re: Cold Front Tues and Wed

Webguy is a bit too modest. He's getting the foil to perform well enough to attempt jibes. The cat video is representative of the jibe attempts. I stayed to avoid Atlanta traffic & watched Ed enjoy good wind, even though the temperature dropped to the low 50's.

Webguy, would you please describe the cracking? Here's another fellow having problems with a Kerfoil.

Re: Cold Front Tues and Wed

Eek! Nothing like that. That's a lot of foam and not a lot of carbon. I think mine is pretty solid carbon in the front. That ding in the wing, though. That didn't look like "it got scratched in the car". There's an expression in bike shops: JRA (Just Riding Around). "I was JRA and the fork broke." Usually interpreted in the shop to mean, "I hucked off a 3 foot drop when I pranged it."

Crack is at the top of the mast. At one point in my foil's life, the head was modified and rebuilt. The back barrel nut lifts from the wing pressure and pulls off the top part of the tuttle head. Structurally below that, it is fine. I've emailed Horue and they said not to worry about the mast's integrity - they didn't feel like I needed to buy a new mast.

I'm going to glue the head back on and slap some layers of cf on the side. It's just a pain because of the tight tolerances of the fin box. About the the only repair on a windsurfer that requires a digital caliper. It was an excuse to buy a bunch of epoxy as I've been wanting to hack the noses off a few of my older boards.
