Hey Barrett. I recently got a GoPro as a gift - haven't used it, but hope to next week in Hatteras. What's your favorite angle/way to mount it when windsurfing? Helmet, boom, board. etc?
In answer to where to best mount a GoPro camera, here are advantages & disadvantages to some of the mounts. A helmet mount allows you to turn the camera on & off easily. The camera sees what you see, but you're left out of the picture. It's good for getting your point of view & picturing your friends. The chest mount is similar with the advantage that you can see the control buttons - the disadvantages are that your arms tend to get in the way of the camera and water spray gets on the lens. A boom mount at the front of the boom lets you turn the camera on and gets you in the photo. The boom mount only works for one direction of travel. Since the camera points away from the direction of travel, there is less of a problem with getting water drops on the lens. Other sailors will need to be very, very close to show up in the photos. A surface mount on the nose of the board gives a great sensation of speed and captures the big scene with you in the middle. It requires attaching the mount to your board, and it may be very hard to remove the mount if you attach it securely. The camera will be repeadedly covered by spray, so you have to have good control of your board and absolutely not drop your sail in a turn, or the camera will go swimming. You will have to stop to turn the camera on/off, or buy a remote control. There are other mounts, but these are the ones I use the most.

I like the shot on the keyframe, Looks like maybe a chest mount panned to the side.
I bought the Sony AKA-CMH1 Chest Mount Harness off ebay for around $8. It works with any action camera, my favorite for Mountain Biking.
The shots from the nose of the board looking back give the best illusion of speed.
I think it was Randy who had the best setup, like a curved or bendable selfie stick mounted on a backpack.
Mounts are cheap, get them all!

Only problem with the stick mounted on my back was it tended to flop around too much, but did give some nice angles.
Nice video. Looks like Alain was using a boom mount and Barrett used a deck mount on the front of the board facing back.
