Everyday, until it blows...

webguy's picture

I will be posting a new cat video. It's now up to the weather gods to stop this insanity.

Please, oh, please let the wind blow and my people go...

(I'm afraid that, secretly, Gene is enjoying all the videos.)

Sorry William, but I prefer the cat videos. Since several of our group didn't consider yesterday to qualify as having any wind I beleive you should post a cat video for yesterday and one for today and then continue posting everyday till it blows. This will give those guys something to console themselves with for missing our epic Big Saturday.

But I win sailing endurance. You sailed a measly hour and change. I sailed 2.5 hours and if you divide my weight by sail size and compare to your weight by sail size you can see I sailed overpowered while you were sailing pretty underpowered. Plus, I don't use HGH.

BTW - my distance was also undermined by sailing a 110 liter board with my 9.0 part of the time.

For alll you guys the didn't make it, here is what our launch looked like. Notice those whitethigns on the water. They are called whitecaps. While perhaps not as interesting as a cat video, they do make for good sailing.

That sloth was me sitting at home waiting for the wind to pick up while you guys were breaking 20 kts. The Gainesville wind gage really sucks since it showed almost no wind, except around 3PM, when there was a passing band of rain on the radar.

You win sailing masochism... as for wing loading– I'm obviously doing more with less if I'm underpowered and averaging more speed. So THERE!

I actually have a witness to my speed runs. And photographic proof. And I'm not just in this for the beer.

My bad.

OTOH, Sunday at 2 pm you would have been hating me if you'd come up. I was feeling stupid even for rigging. As I was bobbing around, some corpulent (sometimes I hate that I try to make this family-friendly) yelled at me from a houseboat: You shoulda bought a jet ski.

In my best Brian Regan voice, all I could say was... "You, too!"

Re: Everyday, until it blows...

No worries. I really wanted to go and then I missed the call from Gene on Sat when it picked up. Sunday just didnt look like it was going: gusts out of all directions and long lulls in between. Maybe with the next front. OR find someone that did buy that jetski for a tow and try some freestyle??

Re: Everyday, until it blows...

I guess it's time to do the WindSense Who/When/Where email.

I could do an email with blind CCs to hide addresses, and it could be used to let others know you're going and when and where. You could save the email, then you would have to "Reply to ALL" so everone would get it, not just me, and it would only be used when you know you're going. It should be used only on the day in question, and not to let everyone know that you're thinking of going two days from now, use the club web page for that.

We could have one for sailors who can go any day of the week and one for Sat & Sun only.

If you would like to be included, email me at gene@windsensewindsurfing.com and let me know if you want any day or just Sat/Sun.

Re: Everyday, until it blows...

I visited Allatoona on Sunday from 1 to 5. There was a good solid breeze for an hour or so but the Atlanta Yacht Club was having fleet racing and ruined the wind for me with lots of holes. They were running races for the Optimists, Thistles, Lasers, Y-flyer, and Snipes. I worked my way to the windward mark and played there until they finished and then had this part of the lake to myself and Eddie. I was on the Cat and 9.5 and he was running his turbo formula and 9 or 10 meter sail. Of course as I was derigging the wind really filled in and only a guy in a hobie tri-maran kayak set up was enjoying the lake.
