While we are on the subject of PSA's - here's a useful thing to know. If you have an old tendon type mastfoot you have not used in a while, you might not know that as tendon's get old they become brittle. They can fail on the water and leave you the opposite of high and dry.

How to tell if you old tendon is brittle and might fail? Simple. Take the mast foot in your hands and try to bend it - if this happens you just saved yourself some trouble on the water:

BTW - that little bit of line on the mast foot (the "safety") is not just a good idea - its vital. If the tendon fails it will work well enough to get you back to your launch.

They will go brittle just in a few years sitting in a dark, UV protected box. I have a friend's old ones and after a number of years, the tendons literally turn to dust.

Truth or Dare: Would you rather spend $18 and change or swim a half a mile?
