Re: New Wind Sport I want to try

After I finished watching the video, I questioned whether they used an effective soundtrack. (Especially ironic as I was watching some old P-Funk and Brothers Johnson with my kids last night on Youtube). Then I clicked on one of the suggestions Youtube posts as the next video to watch and found an arguably better choice - even though the activity lacked the same drama and excitement as getting blown down wind while having a cheap flop house, bedbug-infested mattress strapped to your back:

(yeah, seriously, Youtube really did suggest this).

But back to the original post: I really wish I lived in a place (or it wasn't 12 hours away) where for yucks, it's windy enough to actually contemplate an activity like this. If you went to an open field in Atlanta, stood on a landboard with a mattress strapped to your back, you'd probably leave the field in a straitjacket after having stood for hours motionless until the SWAT team arrived.

Shows how conditions and locations trump equipment every time. Perhaps it shows the reason we need fancy equipment is to make up for not having the perfect set of conditions. It would be really interesting to see if you could do that on the water at OBX with a wide board or SUP and mattress. I wouldn't be surprised if it worked - at least well enough to get moving.

Would it be a SUM (Stand Up Mattress) or SUP (Stand Up Padding)? Not sure myself.

Meanwhile, someplace where having a big pad on your board might seem like a good idea (but really wouldn't make a single bit of difference - you'd still die).

I can't get the video to play. (Probably on my end.) It looks like that scene from the epic movie "2012" where the wave crashes on the monestery.

Going the wrong way in the wind:

btw, Bart Brentjens won the first mtb gold medal in the Atlanta Olympics.

Riding in headwinds during a temporary stay in FL was one of the reasons I really got into windsurfing.
