(CNN)A monster snowstorm is expected to slam into the Northeast on Monday and Tuesday, dumping what could be up to 3 feet of snow in Boston and New York, along with freezing rain and strong gusts possibly reaching hurricane level. The storm is expected to hit northern New Jersey through southern Connecticut and freeze Rhode Island and parts of Massachusetts.
By 5 p.m. ET Sunday, storm warnings had stretched to the Canadian border.
"I want everyone to understand that we are facing -- most likely -- one of the largest snowstorms in the history of this city," said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
He repeated throughout a Sunday afternoon news conference that people should expect delays, very slow or stalled commutes Monday evening. Whatever people do to be cautious, he said, do more.
"My message to all New Yorkers is prepare for something worse than we have seen before. Prepare to be safe. Take every precaution. Now is the time to get ready for this extreme weather," he said. "Don't underestimate this storm."
I am so excited about next NE snow storm ... We just got about 4" few days ago ... and I was happy already ... One long session yesterday and short one today got my heart pounding .... Not much wind to have a lots of fun , but i was scare that snow will be gone soon and I will not snowkite for a while .....
Today media go crazy about 30" of snow in my area in next 3 days and colder temperatures that will hold for a bit .. That is so good news .... Snow will come and stay for me to play and surely will make me take some more sick days at work ...
Winds gusting up 60mph on Tuesday and Wednesday are probably not kitable ..... so to make sure I kite enough I will go and kite those 4" we have on ground .... lol ...
I am about to explode with excitement .... I did not kite for last 2 months ... Temps always below 40F make me stay away from water and buggy ..... It was a long wait .....
Happy kiting my PKF friends ...... and good winds for me and you .....
That's the great thing about wind related sports. We always manage to rise above the difficulties of others.

Nice video! I wish controllable kites & snowboards had been invented when I was a kid growing up in Erie, PA. We had lots of snow, wind, and flat, open fields. The best we came up with was holding big had-made kites that powered us across frozen water on ice skates.
Yo tambien. Possiblé

Sometimes I just love living in Atlanta.
Edit: the windsurfing community isn't quite as freaked out as the mayor

The snow kiting types are absolutely giddy about this:

As the sky darkens, and the temperature drops, I'm having second thoughts about my commitment to sail today. :?: :?:
I intend to sail today - chrisP.
Hopefully just after lunch!
Meanwhile, in Montana
pretty good session - 5.2 wound out - mostly west.
I plan to sail tomorrow if the wind comes up as forecast. Looks warmer than today with sun. Please post if you can go.

If there's sun. Bill A's comments were enough to kill the urge today.
So, it turns out that the NE storm was not the End of Days after all. But as a follow up, here's a bit of the action.
