East Wind Mon/Tues/Wed?

Looks like chance of east wind (and rain) the next few days. I may try to sail Van Pugh some if there's any. Anybody else?

I'm watching it too - looks like this is not a normal easterly though - lots of rain and t-storms mixed in and the forecasts seem to show wind strongest in the afternoons. Hard to tell if this is going to do us any good or not.

I will try to go this afternoon. Van Pugh or Vanns Tavern? Which would be better with the wind coming from the east?

I feel Straight East wind, either, South East Vanns Tavern, North East Van Pugh. But people go to either mainly based on which is closer. I normally go to Van Pugh because it's closer.

I prefer Vanns or Tidwell on NE. Vann's has just a bit of a wind shadow (not like Van Pugh on a SW) where the wind is a little lighter the first 20-30 yards going out. Other than that, it's pretty easy sailing all the way across the lake. Van Pugh has that nasty wind shadow in the middle - the islands off of Aqualand. You have to get past that on a breezy day to have real fun. The chop in that spot, too, is a pain.

Randy has been a big champion of Tidwell and on a 10-20 day, it can be glorious and it's close to Atlanta. You can work way upwind towards Lake Lanier Islands and then have a blast coming back down. The rigging isn't as good as you have to dump your gear in the grass by the launch and then go park.

I'll go to Van Pugh for the company but the other two for the wind.

fyi: the word "thunderstorms" appears frequently in the forecast.

Only Tidwell is an onshore site. At both Vanns and Van Pugh, it's side shore so if anything goes wrong it can be a swim.

Formula board: Tidwell, Vann's
6.5 and under: Vann's, Van Pugh (the main channel is fun and easier to get to with lots of power)
Company: Vann's, Van Pugh.

If you kite, it's Vanns all the way.

Tomorrow, Tuesday looks good to me. I'll check the posts & call those going to choose between Van Pugh & Vann's. SE favors Vanns, but Van Pugh is closer.

This morning so far it's East favoring Van Pugh.
