Decided to feed the addiction yesterday as I had some time off after just finishing a pretty big project. On the drive up, around Duluth, saw a rising column of smoke off to the NW - hmm... something burning.
Turned on 985, and it was still there so I'm thinking that's a pretty big fire in Buford. After that, I didn't pay it much mind.
When I pulled into Van Pugh and came around the parking lot:
Sailed over and really couldn't tell what was burning as it was behind the line of islands there. Looking online, seems most likely that it was a controlled burn by the Army who do that occasionally to control the underbrush.
First 45 min not much wind but then it picked up and had a solid hour + of sailing, maybe because the air cooled down a bit. Wind was quite steady and it was barely capping. Big rig for the win.
Okay, air guitar time -
(possibly the most metal song about a mundane subject ever)

Thanks for the report. I didn't notice any wind here in Atlanta. I wonder how many days are good enough to sail with big gear when the forecast doesn't predict wind.
Barrett
Probably less than when the forecast does predict wind and there isn't enough to sail with big gear.

One of my sailing club homies posted this shot of the fire, apparently on one of the Three Sisters islands near 'C' mark (about 2 down to the right from Vann's). Looks like a bit of breeze fanning the flames.
