All this wind has got me in a lather about some high speed shredding. My el cheapo etrex 101 has officially been declared daid.
My generous gf thoughtfully got me a very cool replacement from REI that does so many things, I can't figure them all out (who really wants facebook on their GPS?).
So what works? Prefer not to use a case thing- so really waterproof, all the usual functions, don't care much about data port etc

Try the Suunto Ambit series watches, I enjoy the Ambit 2 S. No case necessary. There is a newer version 3 out that is an improvement on the 2. Will have to post the result of the map tracking.

I hope my ancient etrex lasts a long time. I never learned how to use 90% of the nonsense they have on it. I'm worried a new one would be so complicated it would be useless. Reminds me of when I went buy a TV a long time ago. There were so many models, features and technology choices, I was totally bummed out. I really did not want to have to learn a bunch of stuff to buy a TV,

Got the etrex 10 on closeout at REI- $80.
Alan, that Garmin Race thing is awesome– but I can't have nice things
Was that at a local store or online?

At the Dimwitty store.
(If you have even the slightest granola allergy, you should avoid his store).
The garmin foretrex 201, 301 and 401'a are discontinued but I found a refurbished 201 online for $99 and it has a nice big 5 min countdown timer for racing too and no housing needed
