Allatoona Water Temperatures

Is there any source for a daily/weekly water temperature for Lake Allatoona?

All I can think about is this pic below. Went for a bike ride today. Dang it was glorious not to be freezing for a day.

So...If I only have a 3/2 wetsuit, I'll need to wait till water is at least 55 degrees, right. I'll be falling in a lot Smile

Let a few nice spring days warm it up a bit. You won't lose a whole lot waiting a couple of weeks.

Which leads to two questions (we are nosy around here)....
1) This is a windsurfing suit we're talking about? (smooth not fabric on the outside)
2) What board are you using?

Apologies if you've answered either before. I forget things frequently.

1. No. Its a surfing suit. I haven't bought a slick suit for windsurfing yet, I'll probably make that my 5mil suit when I buy one.

2. I have a Starboard Start L (225 L) with a 6.5 sail.

I am just three lessons "in" so I'll be spending a lot of time in the water Smile . I live 2 miles from Alatoona/Acworth and I am hoping to get out there soon.

My recently purchased 4/3 was surprisingly warm this winter on all but the super cold days. A windsurfing wet suit makes a huge difference, imho, as the fabric chills you more than you might expect when the wind blows over it (evaporative cooling for those not aware). By the time the temps fall this October, I hope you have a chance to upgrade.

The Start is quite a stable board unless you are really a big guy. Keep your feet over the middle and it's much more stable. The further out you get and with the beginner tendency to press with your heels rather than the balls of your feet it'll get dicier. If you can beg/borrow/steel a smaller sail like a mid 5, that will help. At this point, you don't need gobs of power until you are comfortable on it. Chris Pyron (cp), an accomplished windsurfer, spends a lot of time on a 5.7 even on not so breezy days because it's easy to handle (like me, though, he's not that big of a guy). We still have our Start, 1st generation, because it's such a cool board to teach on but can still carry a big fin and sail.

Watch the beginning kite-foiler video if you haven't already on another thread. It'll make you feel better about your own attempts. We all pay our dues...

Best of luck. It's worth the journey.

Unfortunately I am 6' and 215 lbs. I learned on the Hyfly trainer boards and they were quite tippy but I managed...I think they are in the 70-75 cm wide range whereas my Start is in the 110 cm range. I am hoping the extra width will make a difference. I do a lot of other boardsports, so hopefully the balance aspect will transfer over.

I went with a bigger sail because I figured I will spend most of the summer learning in light winds.

Agreed, given your size, sounds like you have a great set up. Happy that you've got good kit for your stage of learning. It's hard to watch someone starting out who has to struggle against their gear. Very excited for you.
