New WindSense Speed Challenge 2012/2013 -

A series of 4 contests: Sept/Oct, Nov/Dec, Jan/Feb, March/April.

Windsurfing speeds recorded by any GPS on Lake Lanier will be collected during each of the two month contest periods. The three sailors with the fastest speeds will be the winners. Contestants are on the honor system, but pictures of GPS speeds will be appreciated, although not required.

The entry fee is one six pack of beer, your choice, preferably what you normally drink. WindSense will also put in an additional six pack for each of the four contest. Entry fees must be paid before competing. Entry fees will be kept at WindSense until prizes are awarded.

Prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers. First place wins half of the beer (his choice,) second and third places split the remaining beer, with Second place getting his choice, and third place getting the remaining.

Keep it simple, keep it FUN, No Attitudes. If additional rules are needed, I'll make them up.

Contest begins September 1.

Looks like I'm the winner for August. Please get Gene a six pack of Dos Equis, since I don't actually drink beer.

Windlord,

Any kind will do, and we have alot of different kinds out on the water. The real basic ones seem as good as any.

BUT, you should get one like mine where you can set it to read faster.

You in?

OK, the Speed Challenge is ON! kind-of.

I am now in third place with a speed of 22.1 mph. We have a tight race in progress with the top recorded, current first place, speed offfff 24.3mph set by Randy, with Chris V in second with.....23.1 mph. I think I'll wait awhile to actually update WindSense's webpage.

Think you can beat those speeds, prove it, Ha!

New rule change, let's make this complicated. I'm hearing some "I would enter and kick everybody's butt because I'm SOOOO fast, but I don't drink beer." So now the entry fee is a six pack of beer OR $10. I get to decide how the cash is split between the winners but probably if you win and you put in cash, you can take out your cash first instead of a six pack of beer, and then any remaining cash will be split as the beer is split with 1st place taking half and second and third spliting the remaining. I'm not sure if this results in the winners being considered PRO Windsurfers.

Randy and Chris V have been knocked out of the top three and we have a tie, could it get any more exciting?

Scott Spreen and I both posted 27.8 mph. And Bill A's 26.02 mph puts him in third. We also had a few other sailors zooming around who may of had better times but they didnt have their GPSs and are not officially in the contest, YET!

Come on everyone, it's all in fun, and it's only a six pack of beer (or $5, changed, had said $10, see Randy's post.) Even if you dont win, you'll still probably increase your best speeds, and maybe make the 30 MPH (or 30 knot) club. And if you dont drink beer, you can donate your winnings to the Club's Christmas Party, or sell it, no one cares. Get in the game and talk some trash.

I'll update WindSense's Speed page soon, I'm tired.

$10 for a six pack. What kind of beer are you drinking? Not even Dos Equis costs that much. I got a case for $21.

Did you do the restoration?

The bottom shape kinda reminds me of Randy's Hypersonic.

Christopher & I did some of the early restoration work, but made a good decision to take it to Brad Fisher at Fiberglass Atlanta (in Douglasville– ugh) for the transom, paint, mounting the motor, steering and basic electrical set-up. Only wet once so far and it's crazy-fast. 38 mph feels like 60 in chop :o

Things are really heating up. On Monday, Bill A posted a 29.77 speed but was topped by Scott S with 31.34. This puts Scott in the lead and officailly in the 30 MPH club. Watch your back Scott, Bill is really planning on winning this one. And where are the other speedsters?
